Study Area

Most of our study area points fall within the City of Los Angeles, however, some points fall outside of the city boundaries and into nearby parts of the county. The city has almost 4 million people and covers about 500 square miles. The county has about 10 million people and is about 4,750 square miles. Los Angeles County is the most populated county in the United States. It is a part of the most densely populated urban area in the US when it accounts for the Los Angeles- Long Beach-Anaheim metropolitan region. Its population density is almost 7,000 people per square mile. (Brasuell, 2012). About 68% of LA Department of Water and Power’s consumption is residential (KPCC).
